Peter Wong

Mr. Wong is the principal of the consulting firm, IP-R-Us, LLC, specialized in counseling and assisting clients on issues regarding IP researches, patent prosecution, practice & procedures at the USPTO, and implementing any IP related training programs.

Mr. Wong joined the USPTO in 1977 from the Department of Defense (DoD) where he was
a project engineer in the Avionics Laboratory participated in the Remote-Pilotless-Vehicle
(RPV) Reconnaissance project, and other Data Acquisition projects for Army helicopters.
Mr. Wong had devoted his career at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for over 30 years
before his retirement. Mr. Wong was a Group Director in Technology Center 2100 (Computer Software,
Hardware and Information Security), after two years as a supervisory patent examiner (SPE) in the Computer
Bus Architecture, Interrupt Processing & Access Control art areas. As a Group Director, he led and managed a
team of 50 managers, over 700 patent examiners and technical support staff.  As a Primary Examiner & Senior Examiner, Mr. Wong had examined patent applications in the areas of Power Conversion and Regulation
Systems, Battery Charging and Discharging Systems, and Motor Structure.

Shortly after his retirement from the USPTO in January of 2007, Mr. Wong was a Senior Patent Agent with a law firm in Virginia, prosecuting patent applications, and advising clients on IP issues. From 2008 on, Mr. Wong is a consultant in the USPTO Patent Training Academy, assisting in the new Examiner initial training program.

Prior to becoming a SPE at the USPTO, Mr. Wong was a Quality Review Examiner at the Office of Patent Quality Review, where he made numerous recommendations to improve the quality of USPTO’s products and services. Mr. Wong also participated in intellectual property related legislation project with the Office of the Assistant Commissioner for Patents, where Mr. Wong worked closely on various aspects of the new American Inventors Protection Act (AIPA) legislation, including Pre-Grant Publication and Alternative Fee Study.

Mr. Wong pioneered various training programs at the USPTO. He was the founder of Technology Center 2800 Examiner Development Program which hosted numerous training seminars, such as, “Road Map to Success in the USPTO”, “How to be Successful in the Signatory Authority Program.”

In 1999, Mr. Wong was the ambassador for the USPTO to Taiwan, Republic of China, lecturing on U. S. patent
examining practice & procedures at the Republic of China Intellectual Property Office (IPO) to Taiwanese patent examiners and attorneys.

In 2016, Mr. Wong was one of the expert trainers under an European Union (EU) contract to train Intellectual Property Office (IPO) examiners, researchers and industrial IP professionals in the Caribbean islands, including Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and Belize.
